Affiliations.

This section covers affiliations of websites that would, in the opinion of the webmaster, benefit the members of the Association. There is no requirement to visit the links on this page, and the links are here for your benefit. There are some links that would lead to us receiving incentives (financial or otherwise) and would be used to maintain this website or used in prizes (depending on the nature of the prize) for this association. Any complaints about this section of the website should be addressed to the Webmaster and not to the Linda or Ian (details on the contacts page). If you do have any suggestions to make on what should go on this page, please contact the Webmaster.

Antivirus

Why have Antivirus? In today's Computer Age, using a computer is not a simple as turning it on and using a Spreadsheet or a Word Document for performing simple tasks. You may have kids (or are kids yourselves) and may find that games that have been borrowed from friends, or your kids (and their friends) are surfing the internet and looking at websites or have received emails from friends with an attachment that appears to be innocent. Any of these examples, including many more, could all lead to your computer system being infected with a virus. So what's the choice? Throw away your computer? Strip apart all the entry points that would lead your system being infected? Neither of these would be practical in the long term. Antivirus would be the first step towards ensuring that your system is clean from viruses and other unwanted content.

Spyware

Like with viruses, it will be impossible to monitor and control what gets onto your computer. Another way to protect your computer is to scan your system for spyware and other types of threats. Below is a link to a couple of websites that would allow you to scan for spyware on your system.

SpyBot

Ad-Aware - Please select Ad-Aware personal from the link on the left hand side.

Firewalls

Firewalls is pretty much the icing on the cake when it comes to protecting your system from threats from the internet (i.e. people trying to take control of your system without you knowing about it). Below is a couple of links for you to look at.

ZoneAlarm

Sygate

There are literally hundreds of things you can do to protect your system from threats to the integrity of your computer system, the above three would be the bare minimum. As always, it is your responsibility to make sure that your system is fully patched up. If you need any help with installing Antivirus, Firewalls, Spyware protection and patching your system.

Content Filtering

Worried about your kids going to inappropriate sites (such as Adult / Sex Sites, Hacking and Weapons)? Since the internet became mainstream in the UK and the rest of the world, certain inappropriate information (such as the ones mentioned above) became more accessible to everyone, including kids. Without scaremongering people, pedophiles have a  new place to prey on innocent victims, and those victims could be your own kids! My recommendation for parents wanting to protect their kids is to use Cyberpatrol. It is backed by one of the industry leaders, Surfcontrol. Have a look at this link to see what types of sites you can block, and don't take my word for it.
